Hans-Martin Rüter

Hans-Martin Rüter (born December 31, 1965 in Stuttgart ) is a German engineer and entrepreneur who contributed to the development of global solar power and to the legislative foundations of the solar industry. As the first president of the Federal Solar Industry Association (BSW), he was active in the introduction of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) and other legislative foundations for the solar industry. Rüter was voted European and German Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 for his work.

Live and act

Hans-Martin Rüter grew up in Stuttgart and graduated from Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium in 1985 . He was a track and field athlete with a focus on decathlon . After completing his studies at the Technical University of Munich in 1992 as a Dipl.-Ing. Rüter worked for the international management consultancy Bossard Consultants until the end of 1995 .

In January 1996 he founded his first company, SunTechnics Trading für Solartechnik GmbH . As SunTechnics, he expanded this into a system manufacturer of solar systems with a presence in 24 countries. In December 1998, Rüter founded Conergy GmbH , which developed commercial megawatt solar parks in alliance with other company foundations under his leadership , as was the world's largest in 2003 in Hemau, Bavaria . In 2000, he converted Conergy into a stock corporation (AG) and listed it on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange as Chairman of the Management Board ( CEO ) on March 17, 2005 . The initial public offering at that time with a 27-fold oversubscription and an initial listing of 31% above the issue price was the most successful initial placement this year. Founded as a one-man company, Rüter expanded the company into a global group with over 2,800 employees and a turnover of over 1 billion euros.

Rüter was elected President of the Solar Business Association (UVS) in Berlin in 2001. He succeeded in merging the formerly opposing industry associations to form the Federal Solar Industry Association (BSW) and building this into the branch's mouthpiece. He was elected first president alongside Winfried Hoffmann. In this function he was involved in the design and implementation of the Renewable Energy Sources Act. From 2006 to 2007 he was a member of the climate committee of the First Mayor of Hamburg, Ole von Beust .

On November 15, 2007, he left the Board of Conergy . After his departure, Rüter was investigated for possible balance sheet violations. He was acquitted of all criminal charges in 2016. The responsible Chamber of Commerce of the Hamburg Regional Court recognized Rüter's administrative offense due to “frivolous market manipulation” and imposed a fine.

Since 2008, Rüter has founded various companies in the fields of automotive , food delivery, combined heat and power units and e-scooters or has invested in them. In 2009 he became a member of the Board of Governors of the Economic Forum Germany (EFD) and was active as an advisory board member in companies with project-related activities for international consulting on strategy and coaching as well as in the project development of large solar systems in Europe and North America.
