Donezkyj (Ukrainian Донецький ; Russian Донецкий / Donezki ) is an urban-type settlement in the west-central part of the Ukrainian Luhansk Oblast with about 3700 inhabitants.
Administratively, the place belongs to the municipality of the city of Kirovsk, 8 kilometers south, and forms a settlement council here, the oblast capital Luhansk is 49 kilometers east of the place, south of the place runs the railway line from Luhansk to Siversk as well as the river Luhan .
Donetskyj was founded in 1904 as the settlement Kamenuwate (Каменувате), then from 1910 on was named Petrohrado-Donetske (Петроградо-Донецьке) and was elevated to an urban-type settlement in 1963. It was given its current name on this occasion. During the war in Ukraine , the town has been occupied by separatists from the Lugansk People's Republic since the summer of 2014 ; it is located around the immediate front line between the conflicting parties.
