The International Diving Association GbR ( IDA ) is a German diving organization based in Schwentinental . It was founded in June 1996 from the idea of combining the training philosophy of American diving organizations and the more recent developments in diving with the training standards of the world diving association CMAS .
As a founding member of CMAS Germany (a division of the VDST ), IDA is connected to CMAS. IDA is a member of the International Diving Instructor Academy e. V. Potsdam (ITLA). IDA is also a member of the Sporttauchen e. V. and in RSTC Europe (Recreational Scuba Training Council Europe) .
IDA holds instructor and crossover exams around the world several times a year and trains scuba divers and instructors . Foreign representations exist in Egypt , Belgium , Bulgaria , Dominican Republic , Indonesia , Italy , Austria , Poland , Spain , Thailand and other countries.
Education system
The IDA basically offers diving training , some of which follow the requirements of CMAS. However, there are also numerous intermediate levels and additions that are not included in the CMAS International training system . These intermediate levels partially serve to distribute the content of the CMAS training over several shorter courses.
scuba diver
Trial dive
This offer is not about diving training, but rather an opportunity for interested laypeople to get a taste of diving. ( Trial dive ) The content consists of a shallow dive accompanied by a diving instructor .
Basic diving license
This training conveys the entire theory that is also required for the CMAS * or IDA * . The practical training takes place exclusively in the swimming pool . Breathing under water, blowing out the mask , buoyancy , flapping of the fins and switching to the octopus are practiced . The training also included apnea exercises in the swimming pool. With the exception of the open water dives, all practical exercises of a CMAS * or IDA * training are included in the IDA basic diving license training.
Before starting the IDA basic diving license training, no knowledge of diving is required. Prerequisite is a medical certificate which the diving fitness confirmed a minimum age of 12 years and a normal physical fitness.
Upon completion of training is student divers entitled to one accompanied by instructor to dive in the pool or in fault-free open water to a depth of up to five meters. An IDA basic diving license training can be credited to an IDA * training, provided that it takes place within 15 months.
Basic Diver
The Basic-Diver-Brevet fulfills the requirements of the supervised diver according to the international standard ISO 24801-1. The training includes the open water training from the CMAS *. All exercises therefore take place in open water. This training does not include theory lessons because it requires an IDA basic diving license training.
After completing the training, the student is entitled to dive in the open water to a maximum depth of 20 meters, accompanied by an assistant diving instructor. An IDA basic diving license training can be credited to an IDA * training, provided that it takes place within 15 months.
IDA *
This training corresponds to the CMAS * (one-star) and Autonomous Diver training, as standardized according to ISO 24801-2.
IDA AOWD
The Advanced Open Water Diver (AOWD) training is intended to be equivalent to the PADI and SSI training courses of the same name . It includes 5 dives, each dealing with a specific topic, and entitles you to dive to a maximum depth of 30 meters. Prerequisites are basic diving training that corresponds to the standardized Autonomous Diver, a minimum age of 14 years and a valid diving certificate.
IDA **
This training corresponds to the CMAS ** (two-star) training. IDA recommends that a two-star diver should not dive deeper than 40 meters.
Master Diver
The IDA Master Diver has a similar structure to the IDA AOWD : The training includes 5 dives, each dealing with a specific topic. Prerequisites are a certification that corresponds to the CMAS ** , a minimum age of 16 years and a medical certificate confirming the suitability for diving.
IDA ***
This training corresponds to the CMAS *** (three-star) training and the Dive Leader according to ISO 24801-3.
IDA ****
To become an IDA **** (four-star) diver, 100 dives are required after completing the three-star training and at least five years of IDA membership. A total of 165 dives recorded in the logbook and a minimum age of 20 years are required.

Diving Instructor Assistant
This training level meets the requirements of ISO 24802-1, the internationally standardized Scuba Instructor Level 1 . The IDA diving instructor assistant is allowed to organize scuba diving independently, to carry out the IDA basic diving license , IDA basic diver and some special training. With other diving training he may assist a diving instructor.
The diving instructor assistant training includes the following topics: basic diving training in theory and practice, didactics , creating course programs, organizing special training, deepening and perfecting the basics of diving, maintaining diving equipment and legal issues.
The minimum requirement is a three-star diver certification, at least 80 dives documented in the logbook, a minimum age of 18 years and a medical certificate that confirms the suitability for diving. In addition, the special training in night diving , diving safety and rescue , cardiopulmonary resuscitation , orientation and group leadership should be completed.
Diving instructor *
This training level corresponds to the CMAS diving instructor * (one star) and meets the requirements of the ISO 24802-2 standardized Scuba Instructor Level 2 . A one-star diving instructor is entitled to conduct the training and certification of one-star divers independently. The diving instructor training deals with all contents of the IDA diving instructor assistant with diving medicine , emergency and rescue exercises , diving physics , diving practice and environmental protection.
The minimum requirement is a three-star diver certification, at least 150 dives documented in the logbook, a minimum age of 18 years and a medical certificate that confirms the suitability for diving. In addition, the special training in night diving , diving safety and rescue , cardiopulmonary resuscitation , orientation and group leadership should be completed.
Diving instructor **
This training level corresponds to the CMAS diving instructor ** (two-star) and entitles to independent training and certification of three-star divers and lower training levels. Requirements are an age of at least 20 years and a certification corresponding to the CMAS diving instructor * .
Instructor ***
This training level corresponds to the CMAS diving instructor *** (three-star) and entitles the holder to train diving instructors.
Course Director TL ****
The IDA Course Director TL **** is authorized to take diving instructor exams and to organize diving instructor seminars worldwide. Course Directors are appointed by IDA.
Instructor Examiner
The IDA Instructor Examiner oversee instructor exams and issue instructor certification. Instructor Examiner are appointed by IDA.

Diving instructors have the opportunity to continue their education by being trained for the training of special courses. IDA offers the following special training courses:

Children's diving courses
Pinball 1
This children's diving training is based on the CMAS bronze training. In the swimming pool the child can learn the basics of diving.
Pinball machine 2
This children's diving training is based on the CMAS Silver training. This training enables a child to dive in shallow open water accompanied by a diving instructor.
