Projekt Ingeborg (short: pingeb.org) is a cultural project from Klagenfurt , Austria. The project, which started in July 2012, regularly introduces regional artists. By scanning smart labels that were distributed in public space, digital content about the presented artist can be called up on the smartphone.

Inspiration and creation

The project started on the inspiration of Josef Winkler , who complained in the context of the "speech on literature" on the occasion of the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize 2009 that Klagenfurt did not have a city library. The two initiators, Bruno Hautzenberger and Georg Holzer, were looking for use cases for NFC chips in April 2012 and came up with the idea of turning the city as a whole into a library without the city library. The name is reminiscent of the Klagenfurt writer Ingeborg Bachmann .

Operation and distribution

The smart labels are equipped with a QR code and NFC chip, which mark the respective location (stops, cafés, schools, supermarkets, offices, etc.). The content changes every one to two weeks without having to change the labels. The project started with 70 smart labels on July 3, 2012. Initially, 70 public domain works from the Gutenberg project were distributed in suitable locations. Since August 2012 artists from the region have been presented. There are now around 250 places all over Carinthia where the bright yellow stickers are stuck.

After starting in Klagenfurt (pingeb.org), the project spread to Graz (graz.pingeb.org), Villach (villach.pingeb.org), Salzburg (salzburg.pingeb.org) and in 2014 to Vorarlberg (vorarlberg.pingeb .org). The project in Graz was discontinued in 2013 due to a lack of time for the team on site. In 2015 Villach merged with Klagenfurt to form pingeb.org Carinthia.

Prizes and awards

In February 2014, the project was awarded the Bank Austria Art Prize , Austria's most highly endowed art prize. In autumn 2014, the initiators won the CREOS in Gold, the Carinthian State Prize for Advertising and Market Communication.

The Klagenfurt-based company xamoom GmbH emerged from the Ingeborg project, making the technology behind it accessible for these and other applications.
