  • The 1967 Protocol on the Status of Refugees extends the definition of refugees in the 1951 Convention on the Status of Refugees (Geneva Refugee Convention). It was concluded in New York on January 31, 1967. For Switzerland it came into force on May 20, 1968, for Germany on November 5, 1969, and for Austria on September 5, 1973. Directive 2011/95 / EU (Qualification Directive) is based on this protocol, among other things.

One aspect was "to grant the same legal status to all refugees who correspond to the description contained in the agreement, regardless of the key date of January 1, 1951."
