In telecommunications, a distinction is made between information that is delivered as a unit between peer entities in a network and that can contain control information such as network address or user data. Another meaning is found in a layered system, a data unit that is specified in a protocol of a certain layer and that consists of protocol control information and possibly useful data of this layer. For example: Bridge PDU or iSCSI PDU.
