Janet Beccaloni

Janet "Jan" Beccaloni (born December 26, 1966 ) is a British arachnologist and curator of the collections of arachnids , millipedes , tardigrades and colobus at the Natural History Museum in London.

education and profession

Janet Beccaloni worked as a microbiologist at Thames Water from 1986 to 1990 . Subsequently, until 1997, she was the curator of the Natural History Museum's collections of beak peas and caddis flies . Since 1997 she has been the curator for arachnids, millipedes, tardigrades and colobus and is responsible for a collection of more than 3 million specimens. During her work for the Natural History Museum, she completed a bachelor's degree at the Open University from 1990 to 1997 . From 1999 to 2000 she studied museum science at University College London and received a master’s degree.

research

Janet Beccaloni researches the preservation of biological preparations in alcohol and other preservation liquids, in particular to protect the DNA of the collection items.

Her duties as a curator include field studies and national and international cooperation with research institutions, museums and associations. Beccaloni is a volunteer conservation officer for the British Arachnological Society .
