Przybyła town houses

The Przybyła town houses in Kazimierz Dolny , a town in the Lublin Voivodeship , Puławy District , are considered to be the most striking examples of Polish secular Renaissance architecture . They were built in the early 16th century for brothers Nikolaus (Mikołaj) and Christoph (Krzysztof) Przybyła by unknown local builders.

You are in the southeast corner of the market square. There are residential buildings with arcades on the ground floor and three windows each on the upper floor. They were built from the local limestone. The lavishly decorated facades represent a naive imitation of the masterpieces of Italian and Dutch architecture. The facades are crowned by high attics . The roof surfaces behind the parapets are inclined inwards and the rainwater is drained to the backyard.

The left facade shows between the second and third windows the figure of St. Nikolaus von Myra in the bishop's chasuble with miter and crosier . There are animal figures under the first and second windows. There is a two-storey parapet above the main cornice, with the lower storey, divided by nine pilasters , showing mythological figures in oval frames, and the upper two and a half aediculas with intervening fittings . The facades of the ground and upper floors are filled with rustic bosswork .

The right facade shows between the second and third windows the figure of St. Christophorus with the Christ child on his shoulder who carries him across the river. The attic of the right house is single-storey, but is crowned by a series of pinacles, a solution typical of Polish Renaissance architecture. Here, too, the facades of the first and second floors are filled with rustic bosswork .

The two town houses were entered in the register of architectural monuments under No. A / 167 and A / 166 on January 30, 1967.

Another similar town house is in Kazimierz Dolny. It is the Celej House, built for Bartłomiej (Bartholomäus) Celej in the 16th century. It is located at 11 Senatorska Street and houses the Museum of the Vistula Region.
