Psalm 1 (Solomon)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1st Psalm Solomos is a Psalm Solomos from the pseudepigraphic book of the " Psalms Solomos " of the Old Testament . It probably formed a unit with the 2nd Psalm .

content

The psalm is first of all about a visualization of past events. This is done by a subject unknown by name . But according to the third verse, this subject is a mother of children.

Then she faces an immediate threat (verse 2a). Because of the earlier righteousness of the community (the "children"), it was once possible to accept an answer to prayer. In the present situation, however, this can no longer be accepted because of hidden sins of the church (verse 3ff).

Remarks

It can be assumed that the mother represents the Jerusalem church . Such terms were not uncommon at the time. For example, in the Book of Lamentations of Jeremiah, the most striking feature is the personification of Jerusalem as a plaintive mother and abandoned widow ( Klgl 1,1ff  EU ):

“Woe to you, how lonely the once populous city sits there! She has become like a widow , the great of the nations! The princess over the provinces has been degraded to forced labor! "

Verse 1

The threat of which the first verse speaks could be either a threat from internal or external enemies. In the case of internal enemies, one could e.g. B. accept Maccabean enemies or Sadducees . If, on the other hand, it is an external enemy, a warlike siege by pagans is probably meant.

Verse 8

Because πρὸ αὐτῶν (before them) is meant in terms of time and not place, it proves, according to Rudolf Kittel , that the psalm is about the rulers or rulers of the Jewish race - they do it worse than the pagans who previously held power (the Seleucids ).
