Pseudo-random bit stream

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pseudorandom Binary Sequence (PRBS) is a binary signal which approximates the spectrum of white noise and is generated by a deterministic random generator .

The signal of a pseudorandom binary sequence can (typically) have the values +1 and −1. It is used as an alternative to white noise. The reproducibility of the signal is advantageous here. It is used in communications engineering for code division multiplexing , band spreading , encryption and checking of transmission channels and in control engineering for analyzing the impulse response using maximum length sequence .

A PRBS can be generated with a linear feedback shift register .
