Pub quiz
The Pubquiz (dt .: pub quiz ) is a widely used British tradition: They meet one evening per week in a pub and playing together quiz. In the UK and Ireland, pub quizzes are statistically held in almost every other pub . This tradition was also taken up in many other countries. In Germany, pub quizzes used to be held mainly in Irish and Scottish pubs; in the 21st century, many German restaurants are also picking up on a general trend towards quizzes, which in Germany is usually called table quiz.
There are no uniform rules for a quiz in a pub , but the various quizzes have a lot in common. The game is mostly played in (table) teams that compete against each other and write their answers on a piece of paper. In the end, the team with the most points wins; H. most correctly answered questions. At least in Germany, pub quizzes are usually not carried out by the innkeepers of the pubs themselves, but by individual or several quiz masters who work out the questions, ask them and evaluate the answers.
A pub quiz usually goes over several rounds in which quiz questions of different types from different categories are asked, e.g. B. six open questions on the category “sport”. In contrast to many television quizzes, multiple choice questions are rather rare. The quiz questions are ideally designed in such a way that on the one hand they are not too easy, but on the other hand can be solved in the group - through discussion.
Some pub quizzes cost a small participation fee per person, 50 cents to 2 euros. Most of this money goes into a jackpot. Many pub quizzes are free, however, as they increase the turnover of the organizing pub.
In the past few years, pub quiz leagues have emerged that combine quizzes in different pubs into a quiz league.
Process of the typical pub quiz
A pub quiz usually takes place in several rounds. The individual rounds are often under one heading, such as B. Sports or geography. There are also special rounds like the following:
General knowledge : Questions from all subject areas are asked. You write the answer you believed to be correct on a piece of paper.
Anagram Round: Participants have to resolve anagrams on a specific topic. The letters of the anagram must be rearranged in a short time (one to two minutes) to a meaningful word from the Duden, the longer the word, the more points there are. If a word is mentioned that is not in the Duden or does not comply with the rules, there are usually no points.
Photo round: It is important to recognize photos on distributed photocopies, e.g. B. from well-known athletes or politicians, movie posters, record covers etc.
Music rounds: You have to recognize pieces of music that are played briefly via the local music system.
Who-Am-I-Rounds: Wanted is the name of a famous person. The quiz master gives more and more hints: The earlier a team answers correctly, the more points it gets for the answer.
Lightning rounds: You have to find a number in a short time (usually 10 seconds) in the guessing team or agree on a number. Example: “How many chimneys did the Titanic have?” The numerical values increase continuously for the next questions.
Quiz questions
The quiz questions for a pub quiz often come from volunteer hobby authors, sometimes even the pub owner himself, or from specialized companies that offer such material.
winner
For every correctly answered question, every correctly recognized picture, etc. there is one or more points. The winner is the team that has collected the most points in the end. For the winner, there are typically prizes in the form of consumption vouchers for the pub or cash prizes, which result from the low participation fees (usually around 1 pound / euro per participant).
