Location of the bridge

The Puente Bicentenario de Chiloé suspension bridge was the project of a large suspension bridge in southern Chile .

It was supposed to connect the Chilean island of Chiloé with the mainland. In 2005, the German construction company Hochtief was awarded the contract for the construction. Construction should start in 2007 and construction should end in 2012. The structure would have consisted of three pylons and, once completed, should have been the third longest suspension bridge in the world.

The bridge would have been a new section of the legendary Panamericana highway. It would have bridged the Chacao Canal and connected the city of Chacao on Chiloé with the city of Pargua on the mainland.

When the new President Michelle Bachelet took office , the project was subjected to a review and discontinued due to excessive costs.
