The Puente Colgante de Santa Fe is a suspension bridge built in the 1920s over the Laguna Setúbal in the Argentine city of Santa Fe, which is part of the Río Paraná river system . The bridge is also called Puente Ingeniero Candioti after the engineer in charge .

history

In 1903 the first wooden bridge was built on the site of today's bridge, but it collapsed after a short time. Later attempts to build bridges made entirely or partially of wood were just as unsuccessful.

Construction of the bridge in 1924

Concrete planning for today's bridge began in 1922 under the direction of the engineer Marcial Candioti. The pillars and abutments were erected in 1924 and 1925. The actual metal construction of the bridge comes from the French company Societé des Chantiers et Ateliers de la Gironde . After the stress test on April 28, 1928, the bridge was put into operation on June 8 of the same year.

Between 1968 and 1971 the Puente Gobernador Oroño was built right next to the bridge for the Ruta Nacional 168 .

The bridge after it collapsed in 1983

The bridge collapsed on September 28, 1983 when the eastern pylon overturned as a result of months of flooding. The decision to rebuild was only taken in 1996 and implemented from 2000. Most of the original parts from the 1920s were reused and the bridge was inaugurated for the second time in 2002. The cost of rebuilding was $ 7,929,818, according to media reports.

construction

The bridge is built according to the system of the French engineer Albert Gisclard and is a total of 295.40 m long. The clearance between the two pylons standing in the water is 147.20 m. The two pylons are 26.20 m high.
