Franz Vollbring

Franz Vollbring (born September 25, 1889 in Schönebeck (Elbe) ; † August 8, 1959 there ) was a German local politician ( KPD ) and resistance fighter against National Socialism .

Life

Vollbring, son of a worker, also worked as a worker in Schönebeck after attending school. During the First World War he joined the Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany (USPD). When the USPD dissolved in late 1920, Vollbring was one of the founders of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) in Schönebeck. In 1924 he was elected city councilor in Schönebeck .

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists in 1933, he and others in the region led the KPD's illegal resistance struggle against the Nazi regime. He was imprisoned for the first time from November 1933 to April 1934. On April 27, 1936, he was - along with Willi Wallstab and Paul Illhardt arrested again and later to six years - prison sentenced, he in prison Coswig spent. After serving his prison sentence, he was taken to Sachsenhausen concentration camp in 1942 . In April 1945 he and the other remaining prisoners of the concentration camp were sent on the death march towards Schwerin , which he survived seriously ill.

As a result of the poor health caused by imprisonment and the death march, Vollbring was no longer able to pursue a regular professional activity after the liberation.
