Paul Illhardt

Paul Illhardt (born May 5, 1888 in Staßfurt , † May 1, 1936 in Magdeburg ) was a German communist and resistance fighter against National Socialism .

Life

Illhardt came from a working class family. He learned the profession of a former and later worked for the National Radiator Gesellschaft mbH ( NARAG ) in Schönebeck . He was a soldier in World War I and was captured . In 1920 he joined the USPD and later the KPD . For them he worked in particular as an agitator. After he was fired because of his political activities in the company, he actively worked on the unemployment committee.

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists in 1933, Illhardt was active in the resistance and played a major role in building a resistance group. As head of the Schönebeck sub-district, he helped organize the KPD's resistance in the region. On April 27, 1936, he was arrested - along with Franz Vollbring and Willi Wallstab . Illhardt was interrogated by the Gestapo in the " Brauen Haus " in Magdeburg and was severely tortured. He was murdered on the night of May 1, 1936. His body was found cruelly mutilated.

Honors

A street in Schönebeck is named after Paul Illhardt, and the municipal vocational school used to be named there.
