Anchor Iceland (in the Maori language Pukenui ) is an island in Dusky Sound in Fiordland National Park in Southland District in New Zealand . The island has an area of ​​1380 hectares, an altitude of 417 m and is 2.5 km from the mainland. It is used by the Department of Conservation as a sanctuary for endangered bird species such as Tieke ( Philesturnus carunculatus ) and Kakapo . The kakapo occurs only on Codfish Island , except on Anchor Island .
