Pulkovo Heights
The Pulkovo Heights ( Russian Пу́лковские высо́ты ) are a range of hills south of the Russian city of Saint Petersburg . They run in a south-westerly direction starting from the Ischora plateau. They reach heights of up to 73 meters. They are named after the nearby town of Pulkowo . The ridge was hotly contested during the Russian Civil War and the Siege of Leningrad in World War II . Today the Pulkovo Observatory and the Shushary industrial area are located on the ridge .
