Gymnocalycium chiquitanum is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Gymnocalycium chiquitanum usually grows individually with gray-green to light green, flattened spherical and sometimes red overflowing shoots that reach heights of 2 to 4 centimeters or more with diameters of 6 to 9 centimeters. The six to seven ribs have noticeable chin-like protrusions. The central spine that is sometimes present is 1.5 to 2 centimeters long. The five to nine recurved radial spines are yellowish brown to gray and have a darker tip. They are 1 to 2.5 inches long.

The purple- pink , sometimes white or salmon-colored flowers are 5 to 7 centimeters long and have the same diameter. The dark bluish purple fruits are spindle-shaped and up to 2 centimeters long.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Gymnocalycium chiquitanum is distributed in the Bolivian Department of Santa Cruz at altitudes of 800 to 1200 meters.

It was first described in 1963 by Martín Cárdenas .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
