Pulse 5
Puls 5 is a 170 meter long and 60 meter wide building complex with multiple uses in Zurich's district 5 ( industrial quarter ). The building, which opened in May 2004, is located between Turbinenplatz and Pfingstweidstrasse, in the middle of the urban part of Zurich.
In terms of architecture, the old foundry hall , built by Escher Wyss in 1898, had to be preserved in its structure and combined with a contemporary and flexible building structure. The newly constructed parts of the building enclose the hall, which is important in terms of industrial history, together with its historical furnishings as a kind of centerpiece, which is now used as a covered village square and event hall.
The flanking new buildings are directly connected to the foundry hall and house shops, restaurants and bars with various culinary offers as well as service companies and associations of various kinds with and without public traffic.
On Hardturmstrasse, the entire complex is complemented by a new office building, which is connected to the foundry hall via a green inner courtyard and invites visitors to linger not only in summer as a relaxing oasis in the former industrial quarter. While the ground floor of this part of the building is largely used by a Migros branch, the upper floors contain classrooms for the KV Zurich Business School as well as companies and law firms. The main visitors to the existing establishments are the students from the KV Zurich Business School . Other visitors are the residents as well as the employees and students of the CYP, which is located in the foundry hall.
The building complex will be completed at the top with a total of 102 condominiums in a modern loft style inspired by the industrial environment .
After the initial stagnant occupancy rate, over 90 percent of the rental space is now rented, and visitor frequency has increased at the same time.
