Pulsed Energy Projectile

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pulsed Energy Projectile (short: PEP) is a project to develop a non-lethal energy weapon to confuse attackers, paralyze them for a short time or scare them away.

An impulse is fired at the target by means of a beam , which generates a plasma when it hits a target and thus literally causes the air to explode, with the desired effect on the target being achieved through the bang and the pressure wave . It is said to lead to pain and short-term paralysis.

The PEP was introduced in 2006. It is planned to mount the weapon (if necessary) instead of classic machine guns on off-road vehicles, on airplanes or in helicopters to drive away violent demonstrators, snipers or enemy soldiers. The weight is just under 230 kg. It should be used in addition to the Active Denial System .
