The Powder Tower in Johanngeorgenstadt was a tower used for mining purposes to store gunpowder for the Neu Leipziger Glück treasure trove . It was built in 1798 in a sparsely populated area outside the city on the heap of the Gotthelf Schaller treasure trove on Eibenstocker Strasse by the Neu Leipziger Glück Fundgrube union. In 1828 it was sold as a Revierpulverturm for 105 Reichstaler. The purchase price was advanced by the royal tunnels, which also took over its repairs. For every hundredweight of powder stored, a thaler was then collected from the pits for repayment of the advance. In 1864 the powder tower was sold to the district committee for 50 thalers.

Due to the increased settlement of Johanngeorgenstadt, the Powder Tower is now in the Mittelstadt not far from a new building area built in the mid-1980s that is now called Am Pulverturm .

As a witness to mining history, the powder tower is a listed building .
