Johann Friedrich Reik: Powder tower and western round tower from the south side

The Powder Tower is a historical secular building in the old town of Vellberg , which is one of the city's fortifications dating from the 15th century. It was originally used to store gunpowder .

description

It was built on a rectangular floor plan and built in 1489 together with the entire city fortifications such as the other towers and the city wall. The half-timbered tower dates from the 18th century. During the fire in the town of Vellberg on October 21, 1901, it burned down while the original tower was preserved, but was then renewed. Today the tower, which was renovated in 1989 and belonged to the Hotel Restaurant Schloss Vellberg for many years, is used again as private living space.

There are several views of the tower by the painter Johann Friedrich Reik (1836–1904), who was a drawing teacher in Schwäbisch Hall , including after the fire on September 28, 1902.
