Vellberg is a town in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in the Franconian north-east of Baden-Württemberg and a state-approved resort .

geography

Geographical location

Vellberg is about eleven kilometers south-southeast of the district town of Schwäbisch Hall as the crow flies and about 15 kilometers west-southwest of the city of Crailsheim an der Bühler . In terms of natural space, the city has a share in the Hohenlohe and Haller Plains with the sub-areas Vellberger Bucht in the south and Haller Ebene in the north as well as in the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains with the sub-areas Burgberg-Vorhöhen and Speltachbucht in the east and a small gusset of the Limpurger Mountains in the southwest .

City structure

The town of Vellberg with the formerly independent community Großaltdorf includes twelve other villages, hamlets, farms and houses in addition to Vellberg.

The former community of Großaltdorf includes the village of Großaltdorf and the hamlets of Kleinaltdorf and Lorenzenzimmern, as well as the villages of Regenheresweiler and Steffensbach.

The town of Vellberg in the territorial status of December 31, 1971 includes the town of Vellberg, the hamlets of Eschenau , Merkelbach , Schneckenweiler and Stöckenburg ( church and three residential buildings), as well as the Talheim district, the Hilpert farms (with three residential buildings) and Rappolden (uninhabited since 1970 , since 1986/87 there is only one barn) and the houses Dürrsching (residential area) and Hörgershof as well as the abandoned villages of Birnbach and Hockenberg.

Neighboring cities and communities of Vellberg are ( clockwise , starting in the north): Ilshofen , Crailsheim , Frankenhardt , Obersontheim and Schwäbisch Hall . They all belong to the Schwäbisch Hall district .

history

The von Vellberg family is mentioned for the first time in a document dated May 3, 1102 with Heinrich von Vellberg . In 1500, Emperor Maximilian granted market rights for Vellberg and six years later the city was granted city rights.

In 1802 Vellberg fell to Württemberg . When the new administrative structure in the Kingdom of Württemberg was implemented , the city was assigned to the Hall Oberamt .

There was a fire in the town on October 21, 1901, and a second on September 26, 1902, both presumably due to arson.

During the district reform in Württemberg during the Nazi era , Vellberg came to the Schwäbisch Hall district in 1938. In 1945 the city fell into the American zone of occupation and then belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden , which was incorporated into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952.

On January 1, 1972, Großaltdorf was incorporated into Vellberg.

Municipal council

Since the local elections on May 25, 2014 , the local council has 14 members, four of whom are women. In addition, the mayor also has a seat and vote on the committee of which she is chairwoman.

Ute Zoll has been the mayor since April 18, 2010, and won the mayoral election on January 31, 2010 with 65.79% of the votes against her competitor Brigitte Kieser (non-party). She replaced Manfred Walter, who had been in office since 1986 and who did not run again.

Buildings

The historical buildings of the city include the Lower Castle , the Kanzleiturm , the Ochsen Museum Inn, the former tithe barn, the market fountain , the Sixische Tower , the nature and local history museum, Hermann-Frank-Weg 1, the half-timbered house Fiebich and the gate tower , powder tower and the power tower, the “Kammerer” Ganerbehaus, the former gun tower and Pömpelestor, the lower Zwingertor, the cannon tower , the bastion, the old wash house, the old barracks, the upper castle , the old office building , the Stöckenburg with St. Martin's Church . Other sacred buildings are the Bartholomäuskirche, rebuilt after the war, in the Großaltdorf district and the Laurentiuskirche in the Lorenzenzimmern district.

Museums

The local history museum is located in the city moat (closed in winter).

Regular events

• The wine fountain festival is celebrated annually on the first weekend in July .
• The Christkindlesmarkt is held on the second weekend in December .

societies

There is a lively club life in Vellberg. In addition to the Vellberg geriatric care association, there is the Andechser Kultur- und Sportclub Vellberg, Fanfarenzug Vellberg, the fishing association Vellberg, the volunteer fire brigade Vellberg (with youth fire brigade ), the choirs Vellberg and Talheim, the Hohenloher Hundefreunde Vellberg, the culture circle Vellberg, the rural women Stöckenburg trombone choir, the Vellberg trombone choir, the Vellberg town band, the Vellberg gymnastics and sports club and the Vellberg tennis club.

education

The primary school Vellberg taught their students in the school year 2019/2020 through all four elementary school vintages two quickly. Lunch is offered for a fee as well as all-day care. A circle of friends provides the school with ideal and financial support in its educational work.

As part of the Neighborhood School Association (NSV) Ilshofener Ebene, the city of Vellberg has been involved in the Realschule and Maria Montessori School in Ilshofen since 1998.
