The All Saints Chapel in Unterscheffach

Wolpertshausen is a municipality in the Schwäbisch Hall district in the Franconian north-east of Baden-Württemberg .

geography

Geographical location

Wolpertshausen is about 12 km northeast of the district town of Schwäbisch Hall . The districts of Unterscheffach , Hopfach and Cröffelbach are located in the Bühlertal, which is deeply carved into the shell limestone . Like Wolpertshausen, all other suburbs are on the so-called Ilshofen plain . The village of Hohenberg is at an altitude (south facing), above the Bühlertal. The view extends over the village of Cröffelbach, the Bühlertal up to the highest point in the urban area of the district town of Schwäbisch Hall, the Einkorn . To the west there is a clear view of the Waldenburg mountains . The north allows a view over the Grimmbachtal far beyond Langenburg .

Neighboring communities

The community borders the city of Ilshofen in the east and southeast , the district town of Schwäbisch Hall in the southwest, Braunsbach in the west and the Obersteinach community exclave of Ilshofen and the city of Gerabronn in the north .

Community structure

The municipality Wolpertshausen includes eleven villages, hamlets and farms; the village of Wolpertshausen, the hamlets of Cröffelbach, Haßfelden, Hörlebach, Hohenberg, Hopfach, Reinsberg, Rudelsdorf and Unterscheffach and the Heide and Landturm farms and the abandoned villages of Argersdorf, Atzmannsdorf, Altenberg Castle, Hertlinsdorf, Hofstetten, Otterbachhof and Walmerstal.

history

At Unterscheffach there are moats of the abandoned Unterscheffach moated castle . Four more castle stables of abandoned castles are located on mountain spurs to the right above the Bühlertal from the left of the Heinlesklinge via Unterscheffach to the Eichelberg north of Hopfach.

In 1469 Jörg von Rosenberg burned the place down. In the early modern period, Wolpertshausen was under the imperial city of Hall, with the exception of a feudal court, and belonged to the Bühler office of the Halle land territory.

After the dissolution of the imperial city and the takeover of the Haller land areas in 1802, the place fell to the duchy or, from 1806, the Kingdom of Württemberg . In 1808 Wolpertshausen came from the Oberamt Vellberg to the Oberamt Hall, from which the old district of Schwäbisch Hall emerged in 1938 .

During the occupation of Württemberg by the 7th US Army in 1945, 94 buildings in Wolpertshausen were destroyed in combat operations in the course of the Battle of Crailsheim . The new buildings erected afterwards can usually be recognized by a stone-covered base made of shell limestone at the level of the ground floor.
