Kreßberg is a municipality in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in the Franconian north-east of Baden-Württemberg .

Geographical location

Kreßberg is located in the east of the Schwäbisch Hall district on the border between Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria . The community has a share in the natural areas of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains , the Middle Franconian Basin and the Franconian Heights . It is the only municipality in the district whose area lies largely beyond the main European watershed between the North Sea and the Black Sea and mainly drains via the Zwergwörnitz and Wörnitz to the Danube .

In the southwest, the small exclave Sixenmühle belonging to Stimpfach (Schwäbisch Hall district) borders Kreßberg.

The first settlements in the area of ​​today's Kreßberg emerged between the 7th and 9th centuries. The municipality of Kreßberg as it is today was created on the occasion of the municipal reform on January 1, 1973 from the previously independent municipalities of Waldtann, Marktlustenau, Mariäkappel and Leukershausen.

Tempelhof Palace

In the 17th century, the Tempelhof homestead was an aristocratic residence with a pleasure palace in the center . From 1843 it was used as a church child rescue and educational institution, which from 1922 also welcomed children who were difficult to educate. Between 1983 and 2006 it served as a facility for the disabled. In 2010, after several years of vacancy, it was acquired by an interest group that built an ecological village on the site.
