The Pungent Point ( English for Penetrante tip is) a low headland of dark lava , the eastern end of Zavodovski Iceland in the archipelago of the South Sandwich Islands highlighted.
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1974 after the penetrating smelling volcanic gases that are characteristic of Zavodovski Island.
