District Torre Faro with lighthouse and power pole

The Capo Peloro (also called Punta del Faro = tip of the lighthouse) is a cape on the northeast tip of the island of Sicily . It is the end of a flat, sandy headland that delimits the entrance to the Strait of Messina from the Tyrrhenian Sea to the north.

Near the top is Torre Faro, a district of Messina , with a lighthouse, from which the place and the alternative name of the cape take their name. In the immediate vicinity of the cape stands the Sicilian mast of the power line crossing of the Strait of Messina .

On the headland there is a lagoon that is under nature protection as the Riserva naturale orientata Laguna di Capo Peloro .

On May 11, 1918, near the headland, the steamer Verona, which was manned by Italian soldiers, was torpedoed and sunk by German submarines.
