List of apple varieties

Purple cousinot is an old apple variety , the exact origin of which is no longer known. The variety cultivated today under this name and seldom sold is not identical to a lost historical variety, which was described by August Friedrich Adrian Diel in 1813 as the English tufted beetroot and again in 1828 as a purple winter cousin red. The apple shown here is another variety that has been spreading from the Reisermuttergarten Magdeburg since the 1920s.

The variety was previously used as a table and commercial apple and is now cultivated as a cultivar - also as an orchard .

The purple cousinot is one of the Christmas apples . Due to its intense red color, which can be highlighted by polishing the bowl, it was and is used as a Christmas tree ornament .

tree

The purple cousinot forms (as a high or half trunk) trees with a broad, spherical and densely branched crown.

The variety is rather undemanding and also thrives in cold areas and usually sets fruit well due to the long-lasting and insensitive flowering.

fruit

The apple is medium-sized, usually smaller than 8 cm in diameter, and has a round, usually regular, tall shape. The smooth shell has a yellowish-green to yellow base color with a mostly intense red covering color and has slight dots (lenticels).

The apple has a white to light yellowish z. Some of the pulp is streaked with red veins and has a refreshing, aromatic taste.

The apple is ripe for picking in October, and it is ready for consumption in December at the latest. This makes it one of the winter apples and, with appropriate storage, can be enjoyed until the end of spring or the beginning of summer.
