Heinz Ehrenfreund (born January 31, 1942 in Vienna ; † June 27, 1999 in Weistrach ) was an Austrian actor .

Life

Ehrenfreund had his first engagement as an actor and operetta buffo at the Stadttheater Luzern . He played from 1962 to 1969 at the Burgtheater Vienna , of which he was a permanent member of the ensemble during this period. In 1965 he appeared there at the side of Attila Hörbiger as the young painter August Dorn in the romantic magical fairy tale The Alpine King and the Misanthrope by Ferdinand Raimund .

From the 1960s Ehrenfreund also played in television roles. In the 1970s and 80s he was seen several times on Austrian and German television in literary adaptations or in television adaptations of theater plays. In 1970 he starred in a television production of the play Invitation to the Castle by Jean Anouilh, directed by Helmut Käutner . In 1973 he took over Dumaine in a television version of the play Lost Liebesmüh ' by William Shakespeare under the title Love suffers with lust . In 1975 he was seen in a television version of the one-act play Komtess Mizzi by Arthur Schnitzler as Professor Windhofer, directed by Otto Schenk . In 1977 he also worked in a film adaptation of the story Brennendes Secret by the Austrian writer Stefan Zweig . In 1983 he played Baron Felician von Wergenthin in a television version of Arthur Schnitzler's novel The Way to the Free for ORF .

For ZDF , Ehrenfreund was featured in the popular television series Die Schwarzwaldklinik , Der Alte and Das Traumschiff .

Ehrenfreund also worked in some, partly international, cinema productions and worked as a director. Ehrenfreund also made a name for himself as an interpreter of operetta music , couplets and Viennese songs. In the 1987/88 season he took on the role of Gustl von Pottenstein in the operetta Das Land des Smiles at the Vienna Volksoper , with Silvana Dussmann and Nicolai Gedda in the leading roles. Since 1987 Ehrenfreund has been the artistic director of the “Amstetten Musical Summer”.

Ehrenfreund was married to the actress Sylvia Manas and then to the opera singer and director of the Vienna City Theater Anita Ammersfeld . He died unexpectedly at the age of 57 in his hometown Weistrach of complications from a myocardial infarction and is buried in the local cemetery.
