The puzzle ball is a three-dimensional puzzle game . The parts are not placed next to each other on one level as in a conventional puzzle game, but when put together they form a spherical surface . To make it stable, the parts are made of hard plastic and are slightly curved, while conventional puzzles are mostly made of punched cardboard and consist of planar parts. Other designs use an inner ball to hold the pieces, or an inner metal ball and magnetic puzzle pieces. In addition, numbers are listed on the back of the puzzle pieces so that you can check if you have sorted the puzzle pieces correctly.

Even the logo of Wikipedia is a stylized puzzle ball.

variants

A puzzle ball is also offered as a terrestrial globe . Small puzzle balls are z. B. available as the World Cup balls of the last 9 soccer World Cups or as Christmas puzzle balls.

To make puzzling easier, some models have a number with a directional arrow on the back of each plastic piece, which shows the correct arrangement. In addition, the instructions not only show a sketch of a half-finished ball, but also a picture on which the "top", "middle" and "bottom" pages are opened so that you can do a puzzle by picture.

A finished ball can be presented using the stand shell supplied, or using magnetic hangers : This accessory set consists of two magnetic components. One is attached to the inside before the last pieces of the puzzle are inserted, the second to the outside. The whole thing can now be hung on a string, in another variant also on a table stand.
