The Pyramorphix is a three-dimensional mechanical game of patience for one player that emerged in the course of the popularity of the Rubik's Cube and with which it has much more to do than just follow a comparable game principle. Although it looks like a smaller version of the Pyraminx at first glance , the rotating mechanism is different, which allows the Pyramorphix to change shape.

description

In the basic position, the pyramorphix is a regular tetrahedron about five centimeters in size . Each of its four side faces has a different color and is divided into four equilateral triangles . If you started with a small version of the magic pyramid , you could turn each of the points for yourself and the puzzle would be very easy to solve. In fact, the rotating mechanism is the same as that of the Pocket Cube . The pyramorphix has three axes of rotation that are perpendicular to one another and that are perpendicular to the tetrahedron and are square . Each rotation has to be made a multiple of 90 ° and always moves one half of the puzzle. It consists of eight moving parts, four are the three-colored tips, four are the single-colored central surfaces. Due to the two differently shaped types of parts, the Pyramorphix changes its outer shape when it is turned. The aim of the game is to get back to the basic position from a twisted state.

Solution (number of moves and shapes)

The pyramorphix takes on six different shapes, including pyramid , UFO , turtle or shield . The rotating surfaces can be associated with those of the Pocket Cube , and so any solution strategy known from there can also be applied to the Pyramorphix. The exact number of all possible positions also results from this perspective. While all eight parts of the Pocket Cube have three colors and their orientations can be wrong, this is only possible with half of the parts with Pyramorphix. With the monochrome, it doesn't matter whether they're twisted or not.

The Pocket Cube has ( faculty ) 7! × 3 6 = 3 674 160 different positions. The lack of orientation of the middle parts of the Pyramophix leads to a reduction factor of 3 3 . He has 7! × 3 3 = 136 080 different positions, which are distributed differently among the six forms.
