Pyrene (daughter of Bebryx)
Pyrene ( Greek Πυρήνη in Greek script ) was the daughter of King Bebryx in Greek mythology .
When Heracles was on his way to Geryon to steal his cattle, he was hospitable by Bebryx, seduced Pyrene intoxicated by wine by making false promises to her, and then moved on. She gave birth to a snake and, fearing her father, fled to the wilderness of the Pyrenees , where she was killed by wild animals. Heracles found her body on his way back from Geryon and buried her. He called her name plaintively, which was repeated by the echo of the mountains. This is how the Pyrenees mountain range got its name.
