Pyrometry

Pyrometry means non-contact temperature measurement.

With the help of Stefan-Boltzmann's law , the surface temperature of a hot body can be determined by measuring the radiation emitted by it . So z. B. measure the temperature of molten metal without contact or determine the surface temperature of the sun .

Measuring devices that work on this principle are pyrometers , pyranometers and pyrheliometers .
