history
The company, which is traded on NASDAQ , was formed through the merger of TriQuint Semiconductor and RF Micro Devices , which was completed on January 1, 2015. In June 2015 the new company became part of the S&P 500 . At that time, Qorvo was valued at $ 12 billion. The company employs 8,300 people. As of mid-2016, the Oregon plant alone employed almost 1,000 people.
The company's headquarters were initially in both Hillsboro, Oregon (home of TriQuint) and Greensboro, North Carolina (home of RFMD), but Greensboro became its headquarters in mid-2016.
On April 10, 2019, Qorvo announced the acquisition of the Texas semiconductor company Active-Semi Incorporated . The transaction is not expected to close before the end of the second quarter of 2019, subject to regulatory approvals.
Surname
The name "kor-vo" is intended to reflect the "core technologies and innovations" that the companies want to enable after their combination. The first syllable stands for "chorus" of the employees, the second syllable, "vo", is intended to associate travel through air or space.
