Quärtli

The Quärtli was a Swiss measure of volume and, as a beverage measure, was different in the different regions. The measure understood itself as "half measure". In the cantons of Zurich , Eglisau and Winterthur the details were:

  • 1 Quärtli = 2 pieces = 33 Parisian cubic inches = 13/20 liters
  • 1 Quärtli Lautermaß = 46 Parisian cubic inches = 19/21 liters
  • 1 Quärtli gift measure / city measure = 41 2/5 Parisian cubic inches = 11/13 liters
  • 2 quarts = 1 measure
  • 4 Quärtli = 1 head
  • 30 Quärtli = 1 quarter
  • 120 Quärtli = 1 bucket
  • 180 Quärtli = 1 hem
