Squares

Squares is a dice game traditionally popular with typesetters . Instead of dice is in the hot type used "space" -Bleistücken, called Gevierten played. There are several types of square you can play with - depending on the size - for example with the body - (width 10 points) - or Cicero square (width 12 points).

The square has a notch on one side, the so-called signature . The game is now played by picking up three to five squares and throwing them. Each signature on top gives one point. If all the signatures are at the bottom, there are special points. The unusual case of a square standing up (a so-called “king”) is an automatic victory.

The game was traditionally in the age of today no longer common lead sentence widespread. Nevertheless, nowadays some trained typesetters supposedly still have squares in their desks to play with.
