Quakecon

QuakeCon is a BYOC ( b ring y our o wn c omputer , dt. "Bring your own PC") computer game event, which since 1996 near every year Dallas , Texas is held. The event is named after the game Quake by Id Software and is supported by Id Software . It is the largest event of its kind in North America. The motto of the event is “Peace, Love and Rockets”. It is carried by volunteers who are recruited through the event's website. In 2013 around 2800 people took part.

history

The first Quakecon took place in August 1996 at the Best Western Hotel in Garland , Texas. Instead of the originally expected 50 participants, 150 came. The Quakecon 1997 was already attended by approx. 650 participants, but took place at the Holiday Inn in Plano, Texas . After QuakeCon 1998, the event moved to the Mesquite Convention Center in 1999, then with more than 1,100 attendees. In 2000 the number of participants reached 3,000 for the first time.
