The Queen Charlotte Sound is a navigable waters off the west coast of Canada . While it opens to the west to the Pacific and is bounded to the east by the Canadian mainland, the Hecate Strait joins to the north and the Queen Charlotte Strait to the south . The sound was named after Queen Charlotte , the wife of George III. named.
The north-westerly point is Cape St. James on St. James Island , the southernmost point of Haida Gwaii. The northeast corner is formed by Day Point , the southern tip of Price Island . The southwestern landmark is Cape Scott on Vancouver Island . The southern turning point is Cape Sutil on Vancouver Island. On the mainland, Cape Caution then forms the southwest corner.
