Queer as Folk is a British television series developed by Russell T Davies . The first season of this series provided the template for the US series of the same name . The series aired on British television on Channel 4 from 1999 to 2000 . The name is derived from the expression "there's nought so queer as folk" , which is common in parts of northern England , for example "there is nothing stranger than people" . The first season of the series consisted of eight, the second season only two episodes. In German-speaking countries, the series was broadcast for the first time on SF DRS under the title "Queer as Folk - Warm ums Herz". The German first broadcast took place on the TIMM channel . In both cases, however, in English with German subtitles.

15-year-old Nathan Maloney is about to come out . In the gay scene in Manchester (Canal Street), he meets the yuppie Stuart Alan Jones, who works successfully in the advertising industry and sees Nathan as a one-night conquest. In fact, they have sex that night. Nathan falls in love with Stuart, who does not return the love.

Stuart's best childhood friend, Vince Tyler, has less success in his conquests. Meanwhile, Nathan has painful experiences in his family and at school with his coming out. Finally, Stuart and Vince become a couple.

Awards

Queer as Folk received various awards. This includes a GLAAD Media Award for best TV drama series and several festival awards. The most important awards include a total of four nominations at the BAFTA Awards 2001 (including best music, best editing and for Aiden Gillen as best actor).
