Querença is a town and former municipality in the Algarve in Portugal . It belongs to the district of Loulé and is located about 10 km north of Loulé, on the southern foothills of the Serra de Caldeirão .
The Church of the Assumption of Mary ( Igreja Matriz ) dates from the 16th century. Querença was mainly known regionally for its festivals such as the Festa das Chouriças (sausage festival; in January), the Festa do Petisco (delicatessen festival; in August) and the Festa dos Folares ("Easter cake festival "). The Fonte da Benémola spring , which is under nature protection, is also well-known , below which one can admire the diversity of local flora and fauna along the Ribeira da Menalva river.
In 1997, the area of the Freguesia was reduced significantly by the establishment of the Freguesia Tôr .
In the course of the territorial reform of September 29, 2013 , Querença was merged with Tôr and Benafim to form the new municipality of Querença, Tôr e Benafim .
