Crossbelt sorter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The cross belt sorter is a conveyor system for goods that consists of several short belt conveyors ( conveyor belt ) attached at right angles to the conveying direction .

These can be installed individually or in groups on or under the trolley and are connected together to form a circulating chain. The goods are picked up and discharged by moving the cross belt during inward and outward transfer. The cross belts thus ensure that the goods are picked up and the discharge mechanism.

Operation and Mechanism

Crossbelt sorters can differ in terms of their chain guide. Depending on the system, they can be equipped with horizontally and vertically circulating chains.

Horizontally guided chain hoists are mostly used throughout the room, so that the system can be adapted to the spatial conditions and complex lines for transporting the goods are also possible. Vertically guided systems are to be regarded as more compact and can be more easily modularized, so that they are particularly suitable for areas of application with smaller numbers of terminals and sorting capacities. Cross-belt conveyors are normally installed above the trolleys (devices moving in cycles), since the running rails above offer more options to use the space below for other purposes (however, use below the trolleys is also widespread with some designs of this system).
