Quiet Days in Clichy is the soundtrack to the Danish feature film Stille Tage in Clichy by Jens Jørgen Thorsen from 1970 based on the novel by Henry Miller . The title track Quiet Days in Clichy made it into the charts of Germany, Holland and Scandinavia.
Country Joe McDonald was hired to produce the film music as solo guitarist and singer only a short time after he became known at the Woodstock Festival . The result was five guitar pieces, some instrumental and some Country Joe singing leads through the film. For his successful title song, which he also performed after the film, McDonald was later criticized as misogynistic because of quotes from Henry Miller, see also Silent Days in Clichy , Music section .
The remaining seven of the total of 12 titles are from various local Danish interpreters of different styles:
- Lasse Lunderskov composed three of the pieces and played them as a guest guitarist with the Danish rock band Young Flowers ,
- by Andy Sandstrøm come two musette waltz (the third accordion piece of the leader was not included in the soundtrack)
- the Papa Bue's Viking Jazz Band , whose co-founder was director Thorsen, played a Dixieland , and
- a saxophone piece was written by the American jazz musician Ben Webster , who was also living in Copenhagen at the time.
