Quinta del Buitre

La Quinta del Buitre denotes a group of five players from Real Madrid's youth from the 1980s. "Quinta" means something like class (in the sense of a year). "El Buitre", the " vulture ", was the nickname of the most charismatic of the five players: Emilio Butragueño . Together with him, Miguel Pardeza , Manolo Sanchís , Míchel and Martín Vázquez formed the "class of the vulture". Stars like Bernd Schuster and Fernando Hierro also played in the Real Madrid team at the time , but the five young players quickly caught the eye .

Sanchís and Vázquez were the first debutants in the professional squad of Real, on December 4, 1983, under the legendary coach Alfredo Di Stéfano . Sanchís then scored the winning goal against Real Murcia . Butragueño also made his debut on February 5th of the following year. "El Buitre" scored two goals in their first game. Pardeza made his debut before the end of the season, Mìchel only in the following season. Pardeza was loaned to Real Saragossa in 1986 . He returned to Madrid for a season and was involved in winning the championship with 25 appearances and five goals. In the next season he moved permanently to Saragossa, where he developed into a leading figure, but did not play a major role in the subsequent success of the Quinta.

With the four remaining members of the Quinta del Buitre , Real Madrid was one of the most successful teams in Europe and won the UEFA Cup twice (1985, 1986) and five Spanish championships in a row (1986–1990). Winning the European Champions League (now the Champions League) did not succeed during this time, however, three times in a row the team reached the semi-finals and were eliminated there (1987-1989).

Manolo Sanchís was the only one who stayed at Real Madrid until the end of his career and won the UEFA Champions League with the club. With a further 33 national and international titles, he is the most successful Real Real player of all time and was also the last still active player at Quinta del Buitre .

All of the Quinta del Buitre players became Spanish national players and, among other things, contested the 1990 World Cup together .
