Quintus Aelius Tubero (historian)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quintus Aelius Tubero was a Roman historian and jurist of the 1st century BC. Chr.

The son of Lucius Aelius Tubero , who was friends with Marcus Tullius Cicero , was initially on the side of Gaius Julius Caesar's opponents during the Roman civil war . He was reconciled with Caesar and was after a failed indictment against Quintus Ligarius in 46 BC. BC (Cicero's speech Pro Ligario is preserved) only active as a historian and lawyer.

As the latter, he was a student of Aulus Ofilius and wrote works on public and private law that were rarely received due to their ancient style. As a historian of the Younger Annals , including Quintus Claudius Quadrigarius , Valerius Antias and Gaius Licinius Macer , he wrote a history of Rome in at least 14 books, some of which can be reconstructed due to the citation in the late ancient script Origo gentis Romanae . The otherwise lost work was also used by Titus Livius and Dionysius of Halicarnassus .

His son was the consul of the same name in 11 BC. Chr.
