Quintus Caecilius Metellus Balearicus was a son of Quintus Caecilius Metellus Macedonicus . He was probably an aedile to buy grain in Thessaly and no later than 126 BC. BC Praetor . In 123 BC Metellus Balearicus was consul . As proconsul in the following two years he was given the task of subjugating the pirates of the Balearic Islands . For his success he was honored with a triumph and was nicknamed Balearicus . In 120 BC Metellus Balearicus was censor . He had a son, Quintus Caecilius Metellus Nepos , who lived in 98 BC. Became consul, and one daughter, Caecilia Metella , mother of the notorious tribune Publius Clodius Pulcher .
