Quintus Caecilius Metellus Nepos (consul 98 BC)

Quintus Caecilius Metellus Nepos (* around 135 BC; † 55 BC), a son of Caecilius Metellus Balearicus , was a Roman politician. In 98 BC He held the consulate .

One of the few aspects known from his life revolves around his marriage to Licinia Crassa , the mother of his sons. Licinia was already married to Quintus Mucius Scaevola when Nepos began a relationship with her. When they were discovered, Licinia was cast out and hereditary as an adulteress. But Nepos, instead of letting her go, divorced his wife and married Licinia less than a week later. The process was so scandalous that this wedding received several mentions in ancient sources.

As consul he issued in 98 BC BC, together with his colleague Titus Didius, passed a law on the publication deadline for draft laws and the prohibition on applying for several ordinances in a single law.
