Quintus Pomponius Rufus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quintus Pomponius Rufus was a Roman politician living in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD .

A military diploma proves that Rufus was 94 governor of the province of Dalmatia . He was then in 95 together with Lucius Baebius Tullus suffect consul . Based on three military diplomas, it is assumed that he was governor of the province of Moesia inferior on September 9, 97 . Further diplomas prove that he was governor of the province of Moesia inferior on May 13, 1999 .

Remarks

  1. The scenario given here follows the explanations of Werner Eck , Andreas Pangerl: the soldiers who were granted Roman citizenship through the diplomas had been dismissed from military service by Sextus Octavius Fronto before the end of his term of office ( dimissis honesta missione emeritis stipendiis from Octavio Frontone ). At the time the documents were drawn up, Rufus had already taken over the office as his successor ( in Moesia inferiore sub Quinto Pomponio Rufo ).
