Rádio Ecclesia - Emissora Católica de Angola - is a radio station founded and supported by the Catholic Church of Angola in Luanda .

The broadcasting studio is located at the headquarters of the Bishops' Conference of Angola and São Tomé in Rua Comandante Bula in the São Paulo (Luanda) district . A 24-hour program is broadcast via medium wave, short wave, VHF and on the Internet. Frequency in the capital Luanda: 97.5 MHz.

The first broadcast was on December 8, 1954 with the help of a modest 50-watt shortwave transmitter. Daily program was broadcast from March 19, 1955. After the Portuguese withdrew and Angola's independence began in November 1975, the station was nationalized in 1979 and only returned to the Church in 1997. During this time, most of the employees had to leave the country; A program could only be maintained with a small team.

Rádio Ecclesia is considered to be the most widely used independent radio in Angola. It is your own claim to ensure the spread of the values ​​of the Gospel and to guarantee all Angolans the right to information. According to Angolan law, the radio station is not allowed to broadcast nationwide, as non-governmental radio stations can only broadcast their programs in the provinces in which they are based.

Conflict with state institutions

Rádio Ecclesia takes up “hot topics” such as corruption in public institutions; Children who are attacked by dogs while rummaging in the rubbish heaps in Luanda's landfill, or reports on the fate of refugees from the civil war who were made homeless by construction projects by Chinese and Brazilian investors. This reporting led to repeated clashes with the Angolan government.
