A robber ladder , slatted roof staircase , rascal ladder or tree ladder is a climbing technique in which two people help to physically overcome height distances through an abutment .

The most important aids are the clasped hands of the helper at stomach level, which serve as a step for the climber. While the helper has his hands ready as a step and extends his arms, the climber can put one foot on the step. This allows the climber to climb onto the helper's shoulders and use them as a second step.

The term “robber ladder” probably has its origins in the fact that in the past, robbers , actually burglars , often tried in this way to reach low openings in buildings (e.g. windows).

In the regular climbing sport , the technique of the robber ladder is rather meaningless, apart from support centers , such as are permitted in Saxon Switzerland . It is mainly used to overcome obstacles such. B. Walls, and is therefore often used in the military.
