The dune from the south

Rëra e Hedhur (also Rana e hèdhun ) is a coastal dune on the Adriatic Sea  in northern Albania . It is located around five kilometers northwest of Shëngjin  and around nine kilometers southeast of Velipoja on the slopes of Mali i Rencit ( 561  m above sea level ), which drops steeply around 300 meters directly to the banks of the Drin Gulf .

Rëra e Hedhur means "thrown sand". The dune, which was formed by the wind on the slope of the rocky mountain, is around 50 meters high, up to 600 meters long and around 100 meters deep.

A six hectare area around the dune was  declared a natural monument in 2002 .

In summer, the dune, which can only be reached on foot, is often visited and climbed by bathers.
